Story & Atmosphere
Fireside Caribbean Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Pittsburgh at 796 Penn Ave, is a rare gem that captures the true essence of Caribbean cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth not just from the staff but from the rich aromas of authentic jerk chicken, oxtails, and flavorful curries. It’s a place where tradition meets hospitality, serving generous portions that reflect the heart of Caribbean cooking.
One of the true highlights here is their signature oxtails, perfectly tender and drenched in that iconic jerk sauce—bold, spicy, and deeply satisfying. It’s clear they don’t skimp on flavor or seasoning, something that even native Jamaicans heartily appreciate. The menu offers a thoughtful variety, from curried goat that rivals the best you might find in a bustling Jamaican market, to sides like beans and rice or cabbage that round out every meal with comforting familiarity.
The service enhances the experience: quick, attentive, and infused with genuine friendliness, making you feel more like a guest at a family table rather than just a customer. Even with a steady flow of takeout orders and hungry diners, the kitchen maintains its quality and care, ensuring each plate feels fresh and vibrant.
Parking may ask for some patience, but the food rewards every minute you spend waiting. For anyone seeking authentic flavors that speak to the Caribbean soul, Fireside Caribbean Restaurant is an essential stop. It’s a celebration of culture, spice, and hearty portions—a feast that leaves a lasting impression long after the last bite.
“ Once again, this place didnt fail me. I came in 7pm. The place was half full. I sat at the counter no longer than 2 minutes before the lovely lady said "Cabbage or Beans and rice?" AI responded "I just want your oxtails and throw your jerk sauce on it". She smiled, laughed and produced. I told her that I only wanted the oxtail and jerk sauce because I was going to add it to my crab legs. I also expressed to her that the food here great to me. Why do I keep going back? 1, the food. 2, the host/lady up front whos attentive, 3, the cooks be cooking! ”
“ I was highly impressed with the taste of this food. The service was good. I spent about 15 minutes waiting for my food to take out and it was worth every minute. They have a nice variety of meals to choose from. They also offer desert. Parking is a little rough as it's street parking. ”
“ This food is so good. My man threw away my leftovers (only some food left because of the generous portion size) by accident and I teared up when I realized that my food was gone. I literally got it out of the trash and I’m gonna eat it anyway (it was in a box) ”
“ Decided on Jamaican after learning the Indian Buffet was closed on a Sunday. I'm from out of town, visiting friends and we kinda go through "what to try now?" Cuisine wheel. Fireside came up in google search and we were off. We got there pretty early than their typical lunch crowd, for Sundays, and missed out on the Oxtail and Pepper Steak... Greatest happy accident ever! Friend got Curried Goat and I the Jerk Chicken. The Jerk Chicken IS LIFE CHANGING. Best I've had in my life thus far. Wondering why I didn't see more Asian customers because it meets the Savory and Spicy bar head on... Haven't the food sweat/glow and I wasn't even anticipating it because I hadn't asked for hot sauce yet. Recommend the 2 aforementioned dishes... AND the plantains & Coconut Cake! Will be back to try many dishes and also some of the meat & veggie patties! The staff here are very warm, felt welcomed, and I'd love to visit again and bring more friends ”
“ My Sonshine treated me today. My first time there, would ride by but never stopped. I’ll be stopping from now on!! They live up to their name, cause the food was !!! I had the small Jerk Chicken!! Delicious ”
